Synopsis
Komi Cant commincate is a manga and anime about a girl who enters highschool, her cold and noble demeanor strongly intimidating her peers. At the same time Tadano is trying to make the best first impression he can so he can leave his embarassing middle school years behind permenantly. This doesnt go very well, and after being literally trampled as his classmates follow the mysterios Komi, Tadano wakes up alone after school is finished. Gathering his belongings, he finds Komi talking to herself, wishing she could connect easier with her classmates. Turns out, shes not cold, she just has trouble getting along.
What Komi is to me
Komi cant Communicate was another of the first mangas I had ever read. I specifically remember binging dozens of chapters overnight when I first found it. I sometimes reread it just cause I like it so much, especially when the chapters were still coming out. I love the characters, the way theyre written, the slice of life, the growth of each character. The only gripe I have is the artwork. Around the middle of the manga the artstyle took a hard right turn after gradually changing, and I really dont like the new artstyle. They went from a unique stylization to weird bug eyed people, especially Komi. Maybe its a cultural difference in beauty but she looks really weird now. The anime has this same artstyle, but I really liked it.
What I like about it
The main cast is primarily Komi and Tadano, and at first the story is just about them, with characters being introduced as Komi makes more friends. Then the number of characters increases exponentially, im not joking. Theyre all decently fleshed out and nearly all of them are genuinely charming.
My favorite part, other than how sweet the story is, is learning the meaning of their names, as all the characters names are puns in some way. Im sure you can figure out Komi regardless, and Tadanos means ordinary guy or something similar. Im sure youll find some charming character to call your favorite.
Another favorite of mine is Himeko, she isnt really that prominent but I like her design and premise a lot lol.
